About
Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th President in September 1901 after William McKinley's assassination, at 42 the youngest person to hold the office. He pushed antitrust enforcement, federal food and drug regulation, and a conservation program that placed roughly 230 million acres under federal protection. He won the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for mediating an end to the Russo-Japanese War.
